Ep. 2: The Greatest Obstacle with Your Singing is Your Thoughts About Your Voice

The greatest obstacle with your singing is your thoughts about your voice.

You get discouraged. You get down. You think there’s no hope. You think it’s impossible. Watch this video and find out what you must know and believe about your voice.

Hello Friend, I’m Chuck Gilmore with Power to Sing. It’s time to remove limiting thoughts and opinions about your singing voice that you’ve accepted as fact.

Bull Crap You Believe About Your Voice

Here are some things I “knew” to be true about my voice. (I was wrong)

I can’t do it.

Everyone else sounds better.

I can’t sing very high because I’m a bass.

I wasn’t born with a gift to sing.

I don’t have power in my voice.

I don’t have vibrato because I wasn’t born with it.

I’m okay in choir but not as a soloist.

This was baloney! Horse pucky! Bull crap! It’s not fact!

Do you believe in similar bull crap about your voice? Why do you believe in the bull crap about your own singing voice? Well, here are some common reasons:

  • A friend or family member told you, you couldn’t sing.
  • Somebody important to you made fun of your singing or criticized you.
  • You may have had a bad experience singing.
  • Your voice is off pitch.
  • You can’t sing very high.
  • You have a break.
  • Your voice is weak and breathy.
  • Everyone around you seems to be able to sing better.

Well, I’m not saying that these things are not true or didn’t happen. They are likely based on actual experience.

But it is bull crap to believe that this is what has to be!

It’s not that you can’t sing, you just don’t know how.

It’s not that you can’t sing higher, you just haven’t been taught how to do it.

It’s not that your voice breaks or is weak and airy or it won’t go very high. You just don’t know how to fix those things.

Facts About Your Voice

Fact. You can learn to sing higher than you ever thought possible.

Fact. You can eliminate breaking and cracking.

Fact. You can have great pitch control.

Fact. You can have a strong voice.

Fact. You can inspire and entertain others with your singing.

Fact. Even a damaged voice can be rehabilitated and function again.

Fact. You can have great breath control.

But, you say, I’ve had voice lessons and I still stink! This is not unusual. I studied with multiple teachers, several who had their singing degrees. Now many students graduate with college singing degrees but still haven’t overcome these problems.

The tragedy is that students, who’ve studied with universities or university trained teachers, give up hope if they still can’t do it.

They think they are the problem. They believe that they are limited. One singer I know left the university opera program with nodules on her vocal cords.

It’s not the student who failed. It’s the failed technique being taught by teachers.

Yes! Even teachers with masters and doctorate degrees. Even teachers who themselves were born great singers can’t help students. Why? Because they don’t know about the technique.

Fact. There is a technique created and perfected by Seth Riggs called Speech Level Singing, about which a world renowned vocal scientist recently said is “the missing link”. It’s what thousands of singers have studied and used to correct the problems in their voices.

The Greatest Obstacle with Your Singing is your thoughts!

What You Must Believe About Your Voice

Now I want you to believe three things about your voice.

  1. You’ve struggled not because you can’t sing. You’ve struggle because you didn’t know what was possible and you did know where to get help.
  2. 1000’s of singers with the same problems you face have become great singers or continue to be great singers through the technique I teach, Speech Level Singing.
  3. Your vocal weaknesses can be eliminated. You can reach your singing dreams.

Do you know your vocal type? I’m not referring to whether you’re soprano, alto, tenor, or bass. Your vocal type describes what you tend to do when you sing.

Knowing and understanding your vocal type is vital to your success as a singer. Find out why at PowertoSing.com. Visit PowerToSing.com.
