Hello friend, I’m Chuck Gilmore with Power To Sing.

Problems with Your Singing Voice

Does this describe you?  When you try and sing higher your voice feels:

  • Strained or pinched?
  • Your voice sounds weak or breathy?
  • Voice cracks or breaks as you sing higher?
  • You lack confidence singing in front of other people?
  • You run out of air when you sing?
  • You feel confused about your voice and question whether you really can sing or not?
  • You can’t sing with vibrato in your voice?
  • You don’t like the sound of your voice?
  • Or you have pitch problems?
  • You’ve taken voice lessons but you still can’t sing?

These are common problems that many of us experience with our voices. We feel limited by them because we see others able to sing really well and we believe we can’t do it because we weren’t born the special gift to sing.

Here’s the truth about your voice. It’s not because you can’t do it.  It’s not because you weren’t born with a special gift. You have these problems because you didn’t know anything else was possible.

And if you did think it was possible to correct these problems, you didn’t know how to overcome them. And you didn’t know who and where to go to correct these problems.

Now, for example, all my life I couldn’t sing past an “E” above middle-C. So I believed it wasn’t possible! I’d taken many voice lessons from various teachers all who also believed the same thing about my voice.

As far as I was concerned it wasn’t even a possibility. I believed I was not physically able to sing higher. While studying Speech Level Singing as taught by Seth Riggs and his teachers, I soon began singing notes that I never believed were possible for my voice.

Physical Reasons for Problems You Have With Your Singing Voice

How was I able to do this?  It’s nothing magical.  There was a physical reason I couldn’t do it. When I learned physically what to do, I was able to begin singing higher.

Let me show you. I’m not going to go into a great amount of detail here, but essentially here’s what happened.  I couldn’t sing very high.  And it sounded like this.  I sang a song in high school as a duet. It was from the “Fantastics” and it’s called “Metaphor”.

I remember singing this because it ended on a “D” above middle-C which is right next to the highest note I felt like I could ever do.  So every single time I felt like I was just dying to get to the “D” and I know there were times I was a little bit flat.

So let me just illustrate that:  The ending was like this: [sing’s flat]

Well I knew that I struggled. Now, because I learned physically what to do, here’s how I do it now. [sing’s on pitch without straining]

Now, I don’t have to stop there that’s the “D4”.  [Sings a G4]” and here’s the high A4. [sings it]

Should we venture into the…how about the high C5?  Oh what the heck [sings the high C5]

And that’s not falsetto!

I learned there was a physical reason for this. My larynx which houses the vocal cords was moving upward just like it does when I swallow. The result was the sound was choked off and the resonance, or the vibration, was not able to shift upward into my head.

I learned specific exercises to keep the larynx at my speech level (or staying close to where it does when I speak). The exercises were simple, but because of years of bad habits and wrong beliefs about my voice, it took me a while to learn to do this.

This is what happens when the larynx stays down and there’s no reaching in muscles of my throat.  I’m able to sing the high C5!

Here’s the point.

Each problem you currently have with your voice and believe it’s unchangeable can be corrected!

Special exercises are available for you to cause you to physically correct bad habits, eliminate problems, and give you the power to sing higher with beauty, confidence and power. It’s even possible for damaged vocal cords to be rehabilitated and strengthened to sing again!

Now there’s a physical reason for the problems you have with your voice. I’m repeating myself. You can learn specific exercises to eliminate the vocal problems one by one. Soon you’ll be amazed, maybe even shocked by your own progress.

Even though these things are what you are experiencing now in your voice, they are not the truth about your voice. They can be corrected physically with exercises that can eliminate the wrong things and cause the correct physical things to happen.
