What is a smooth singing voice?

 

It’s a voice that moves effortlessly from the lower chest voice to the higher head voice and back down again in an even, connected tone. There’s no cracks or breaks. There’s no strain.

 

What does a smooth singing voice sound like?

 

The voice sounds easy and consistent whether it’s loud or soft, high or low. It’s comfortable to listen to because it sounds clean and uncluttered. There’s no imitating. Nothing added or manufactured. The voice is completely at ease.

 

The Number One Secret – How to Sing Smoothly For Men and Women

 

The number one secret to singing smoothly is described perfectly by the character Bagger Vance played by Will Smith in the movie “The Legend of Bagger Vance”.  Matt Damon plays a local Atlanta, Georgia golf sensation who’s no longer able to play the game because he’s suffering tramatic PTSD from the effects of his fighting in WWI. He’s trying to make a comeback and is failing miserably in front of his adoring fans.

 

Bagger Vance gives this amazing advice to this broken and suffering man. I will replace a few words with the word “Voice”.

 

“Yep… Inside each and every one of us is one true authentic swing [voice]… Somethin’ we was born with… Somethin’ that’s ours and ours alone… Somethin’ that can’t be taught to ya or learned… Somethin’ that got to be remembered… Over time the world can rob us of that swing [voice]… It get buried inside us under all our wouldas and couldas and shouldas… Some folk even forget what their swing [voice] was like…

 

There’s a perfect shot [voice] out there tryin’ to find each and every one of us… All we got to do is get ourselves out of its way, to let it choose us…

 

The secret to smooth singing is to get ourselves out of our own way and let our very own authentic, natural voice choose us.
