When we start seeking to improve our singing voice, often we have no idea what to expect. Many of us feel it’s all a great mystery.
Like traveling blind. What roads do I take? Are there any roads? Are there any maps? Signs? Has anyone traveled this way before? How long will it take? Does my guide [your voice teacher] know where we’re going? Does my teacher-guide know the obstacles and how to avoid or overcome them? How do I know if I’m making progress? Are we almost there? When will we get there? Can we go faster? Slower? Will I ever get there?
In singing terms, How long will it take to learn to sing? Why can’t I sing very high? Why does my voice sound weak or breathy? Why does my voice jam up? Give out? Break? Why don’t I have enough air?
